This Friday (19), the Partido Novo confirmed the pre-candidacy of former Lava Jato prosecutor and former federal deputy, Deltan Dallagnol, for Curitiba City Hall. The confirmation was made through a statement sent by the party to the Institute for Social, Political and Economic Research (Ipespe) so that Deltan’s name can be included in future opinion polls.

“Partido Novo comes, respectfully before Your Lordship, to inform you unequivocally that the member Deltan Dallagnol is a pre-candidate to contest the position of Mayor of Curitiba in the 2024 election, notifying you, consequently, so that his name be included in the opinion polls that are carried out for public knowledge, relating to the aforementioned electoral dispute”, says the document to which the People’s Gazette had access.

Deltan joined the Partido Novo in September last year with the aim of strengthening the party for 2024.

“The battle in 2026 begins next year in the election for councilors, because they are the ones who will then leave and compete for the position of federal deputy […] What I want is to call a large number of people to this transformation. They cut off my head in the National Congress, my goal is to put 200 others in its place”, said Deltan when announcing his affiliation with Novo.

Deltan’s mandate in the Chamber of Deputies was revoked by unanimous decision of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), in May last year.

The rapporteur of the process and general electoral inspector, minister Benedito Gonçalves, accepted the appeals presented by the federation formed by the parties PT, PCdoB and PV so that the registration of Dallagnol’s candidacy was rejected.

The parties that filed the action allege that Dallagnol had requested dismissal from the Public Ministry during the pending Administrative Disciplinary Process (PAD), which, according to the Clean Record Law, would make the former Lava Jato prosecutor ineligible.

It turns out that the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR) recognized that he did not have any PAD pending at the time of his dismissal and granted his candidacy.
