Parliamentarians point out ways to combat violence after shooting at a soccer game in Manaus

Manaus (AM) – After the murder of three people during a soccer game in Manaus, parliamentarians from Amazonas told Em Tempo, this Monday (23), about the importance of going beyond investments in public security to combat crime and the increase of gangs. criminals. Last Sunday (22), members of a criminal faction invaded a soccer field, located in the Jorge Teixeira neighborhood, in the East Zone of the capital, and shot at the players.

According to information from the Military Police teams, the target of the criminal action would be Felipe Klesler Freitas da Costa, 30 years old, also known as “Marapá”. He was murdered along with two other people, identified as Valcenir Oliveira da Silva, 27, and Odilon Vieira Mendonça, 31.

To Em Tempo, councilor Marcelo Serafim (PSB) pointed to violence involving criminal factions as a “chronic problem” in Manaus, and indicated the spread of drugs in all areas of the city as one of the factors for the recurring occurrence of similar cases.

“Trafficking, unfortunately, is dominated in the most peripheral areas and, often, the government apparatus is not able to work satisfactorily to be able to combat all this”, analyzed Marcelo Serafim.

For the parliamentarian, investment in security forces is important, but alone is not enough, and he stressed the importance of the Federal Government’s role in combating organized crime and drug trafficking.

“Investment in security forces is important, but that’s not all. There has to be work, in partnership with the Federal Government, because drugs only took hold the way they did in Manaus, because here is an international trafficking route. If the border is properly closed, we will start to have less problems here in the capital”, he explained.

Councilor Wallace Oliveira (Pros) highlighted that public safety falls within the competence of the state. “It is there that public policies to combat this state of affairs have to be created”

“I deeply regret this whole scenario. What has happened is very worrying. The Legislative Assembly, through its members, has to respond to society, creating laws that combat all of this, and bring the necessary tranquility to all citizens, “he said.

According to Antônio Peixoto (Pros), councilor and current vice-president of the Permanent Technical Commission on Public Security (COMSEGPM), of the Manaus City Council (CMM), violence in Manaus is directly linked to drug trafficking.

“I am a career Civil Police Officer and, throughout my history in the police force, I have seen the tragedy that the use of narcotics causes in the life of a young person and, consequently, everyone around him. Factions exist because of the trafficking that foments their structures and causes so many deaths,” he explained.

In this sense, the parliamentarian stressed that it is necessary to act more rigorously in the fight against drug trafficking to improve public safety in the city.

“We have good police, military and civil, in the state. We have a governor committed to the cause, but we must maintain the quality of investments in materials and extend this application to the security agent, with consistent salaries and constant training.

Councilman Peixoto also emphasized the importance of social improvements such as education and leisure projects to promote alternatives and opportunities for younger people.

“In addition, we need programs and projects that offer options to our young people, in education and leisure, giving alternatives to leaving the streets and bad company. Actions that prepare them for the market and alternatives that can absorb them, such as quality jobs so that young people stay away from the dangers that the world of crime offers”, he highlighted.
