Paris Saint-Germain finally confirmed this Saturday the departure of the Argentine striker Lionel Messi from the club, after two seasons in the French capital and a few hours after the last game of the French Championship against Clermont, in the Parc des Princes.

The news had already been announced last Thursday (1st) by PSG coach Christophe Galtier at a press conference, but hours later the club itself said that the coach had “expressed himself badly”, leaving the veracity of the information in the air. .

Today, coinciding with the last round of the French Championship, which PSG won in advance, the club itself officially announced the departure of the Argentine star with a statement entitled “Leo, thanks”.

“Paris Saint-Germain is proud to have the best player in history in its ranks and wishes, with some emotion, many more successes for Leo in the rest of his career,” reads the message.

In the same message, Messi conveyed: “Thank you to the club, the city of Paris and its inhabitants for these two years. I wish them the best for the future.”

For his part, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said it was a “pleasure” to see the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner wear the club’s colors at the Parc des Princes, win the French Championship twice and inspire the most young people.

“His contribution to Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1 cannot be underestimated and we wish Leo and his family all the best for the future,” commented the president.

In this farewell, PSG also reviewed Messi’s French adventure, which, wearing the number 30 shirt, he scored a total of 32 goals and provided 35 assists.

Messi arrived in Paris in August 2021 on a two-year contract plus a third as an option after his former club Barcelona were unable to pay him.

After the World Cup won by Argentina last year, it looked like the player and PSG would go together, but in recent weeks the sides have drifted apart.
