Paris-2024 has more than 300,000 registered volunteers – 04/05/2023 – Sport

Last Wednesday night (3) the registration deadline for those interested in working as volunteers during the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 ended. The number of candidates was well above expectations.

The organizing committee hopes to hire 45,000 volunteers to contribute during the event. However, according to the entity, after six weeks of applications, more than 300,000 applications were registered.

The Cojo (Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games) celebrated this “enthusiasm around its program”. A third of the candidates are under 25, according to a committee statement, and 55% are women.

According to Cojo, 30,000 volunteers should work at the Olympic Games (July 26 to August 11) and 15,000 at the Paralympic Games (August 28 to September 8). Half of the candidates say they want to participate in both events.

To register for the list, interested parties must be over 18 years old (on January 1, 2024), speak French and/or English and be available for at least ten days during the event.

In this first phase of recruitment, they answered around 200 questions in the form of a personality test. Questions like this made the list: “Would I rather think outside the box to find new solutions or work for an organization that helps make the world a better place?”

The candidates —who must be the “faces of the Games”, as the chairman of the committee, Tony Estanguet, insists— will now go through a new selection phase. Some of them “will receive proposals for interviews or additional tests, especially when the assigned missions require specific skills (linguistics, knowledge of a sports discipline…)”, explained the committee.

Candidates will be selected by the end of 2023.
