Goals were scored by Rogério Melo and the ‘Tourão’ captain, Douglas Nunes

RPE Parintins snatched a draw in second-half stoppage time, in a clash with Nacional, and remains leader of Group B of the Amazonense Championship with eight points. The goals were scored by Rogério Melo, in the first half for the capital team, and by the ‘Tourão’ captain, Douglas Nunes.

The match took place this Saturday afternoon (03) at the Ismael Benigno stadium, Colina. Now the attention of the ‘Tourão’ squad is on the match against Manaus, scheduled for next Tuesday (06/02) at the Carlos Zamith stadium.

RPE Parintins coach, Maurinho Fonseca, acknowledged that the team was dominated in the first half by Nacional, but knew how to withstand the pressure and didn’t give up looking for the goal.

“The truth has to be told. The first half we didn’t play. Since the pre-season, including the three friendlies and the competition matches, without a doubt we didn’t play the first half. We made mistakes in practically everything we tried to do. We were very lucky not to go down three or four to zero in the first half. That’s a fact, there’s no denying it,”

said the coach.

After the break, the team changed its attitude and gained more speed with the entry of Allefe Feitosa.

“We deserved to be losing more and if we only came away with one to zero it’s because there was something more. In the second half we balanced the game. We managed to reach the opponent’s goal, finish and we suffered in the same way, as we were already running in desperation, chasing the result, but we didn’t give up. So if there is a saying that says that a draw tastes like a victory, it is games like this where we come away with a taste of victory”,

concluded the technician.

Top-scoring defender – After a great cross from Allefe Feitoza, when the clock was already passing 51 minutes into the second half, Douglas hit a beautiful header, thus giving the final score of the match.

“We cannot discount what the opposing team did, especially in the first half, but we are a very fierce team that never stops believing. We have to really value this point, this draw, because it will help us with another step towards our objectives in the competition”,

Douglas said.
