Frimesa Parmesan cheese from Marechal Cândido Rondon is the champion of Paraná Cheese Award. At the awards ceremony on Thursday night (01/06) held in the auditorium of the Oscar Niermeyer Museum (MON), in addition to the revelation of the great winner, another 98 competitors were decorated: 10 obtained the super gold medal, 30 took the gold, 30 won silver and 28 won bronze.

The award — promoted by a management committee, formed by the FAEP/SENAR-PR System, the Paraná Rural Development Institute (IDR-Paraná), Sebrae-PR and Sindileite-PR, with the support of 28 entities — is a pioneering initiative in the state and brought together small cheese producers with large companies from all regions of Paraná.

Throughout the morning of Thursday (01/06), the 297 cheeses entered in 16 different categories were evaluated based on technical and sensorial criteria by a body of judges composed of 60 members. Each cheese was evaluated by at least three judges, who assigned scores from 0 to 20 points for each product.

Secondly, in the afternoon, a select group of 10 judges evaluated the gold awarded cheeses and selected the 10 best that took the gold medal. super gold. They are: Mananciais Cheese (Santa do Itararé), Tome Negro do Oeste (Diamante d’Oeste), Colonial Seasoned Cheese (Cantagalo), Colonial Cheese with Wine (Cantagalo), Maná Half Cure Cheese with fungus (Santana do Itararé), Cheese Maná Safras (Santana do Itararé), Appenzeller Cheese (Palmeira), Célia Meia Cura Cheese (Santana do Itararé), Parmesan Cheese 5 kg (Marechal Cândido Rondon) and Colonial Cheese matured for 50 days (Nova Laranjeiras).

“It is very exciting to be able to participate in this evaluation of the Cheeses of Paraná Award and to know that we have many award-winning producers, both with artisanal and industrial cheeses, to be valuing Paraná even more as a state that produces quality cheese”, comments Fabiane Picin de Castro , juror and professor at UTFPR in Francisco Beltrão.

For Ronei Volpi, president of the Technical Commission (CT) of Dairy Beef at FAEP, the award aimed to bring visibility and appreciation to the cheese produced in Paraná, since the state is the second largest producer of milk in the country, behind only of Minas Gerais. “Our cheeses, which already have a lot of quality and diversity, will be better known and recognized by consumers from Paraná and Brazil”, he says.
