Located in the depths of the luxurious Morumbi, Paraisópolis, the second largest favela in São Paulo, will become the traveling headquarters of the fourth meeting of the Parliamentary Front for Medicinal Cannabis and Industrial Hemp, of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp), this Wednesday (06). The event aims to announce the winners of the selection of the notice launched in September, to encourage research projects related to the topic. The event starts at 10am, at Legado Talks headquarters, a space created to discuss health, entrepreneurship, female empowerment and cannabis education.

O notice was launched in June, with the aim of encouraging research, health, technology and innovation projects that help face the new challenges imposed by the law, which placed the Cannabis in the Unified Health System (SUS), in the state of São Paulo, authored by deputy Caio França (PSB). The initiative had 37 projects registered, which came from public universities – such as the State of São Paulo (Unesp) and the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) –, as well as foundations and institutes linked to hospitals, such as Sírio Libanês and Albert Einstein, and various associations.

Five projects were selected. “They came from two public universities, two associations and a hospital”, says França, coordinator of the Front, but without revealing the names of the winners. For the notice, the Front raised a budget of R$ 734 thousand for the notice. “The appeal is the result of mandatory and individual amendments.” The majority of this amount, R$434,456, comes from France’s budget, and the rest from the vice-coordinator Edward Suplicy (PT). “We were very happy with the quality of the projects presented,” he says.

During the session, an overview will also be made of the activities carried out by the Parliamentary Front during this year, which has the support of IPSEC (Institute for Social and Economic Research on Cannabis) as a technical agent. The special session will be broadcast on Rede Alesp’s YouTube.
