Pará records 70% reduction in deforestation in August, indicates Inpe – 09/05/2023 – Panel

Pará had a 70% reduction in the area with deforestation alerts in August and headed the list of Amazonian states with a reduction in deforestation, according to data from INPE (National Institute for Space Research).
The state capital, Belém, will host the COP-30, the UN climate conference, in 2025.
According to Inpe, the state had a reduction in deforestation equivalent to an area of 472 km². Amazonas, with 225 km², Mato Grosso, with 173 km², and Rondônia with 113 km², come next.
In all, the Legal Amazon recorded an area covered by alerts 66% smaller in August than in the same period in 2022, or 1,101 km².
