Leylianne Samara Santos, 25 years old, is the only representative from the north of the country on the squad for the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, in the parataekwondo modality. Macapá City Hall supports the athlete on her international trip.
Currently, the para-athlete trains at the Glicério Marques Sports Complex and underwent all the mandatory medical examinations required by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee at Papaléo Paes to compete in the games in Chile.
The Amapá native, who has a congenital malformation in her left arm, is currently 5th best in the world in the K44 class and runner-up in the world in Istanbul, Turkey.
This is the second time that Leylianne will compete in the Parapan American Games. The first was in 2019, when she won bronze, in the K44 + 58kg category, at the Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru. Now, the expectation is to improve the result of the last participation, seeking the finals.
The para-athlete’s trip to Chile has the support of Macapá City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Sports and Leisure (Semel). The secretary, Bruno Igreja, said that the municipal management is proud and confident in Leylianne’s performance. “We are very happy and happy with this achievement! Let’s fight,” he stated.
Leylianne also thanked the support received and said she is prepared to face the challenges. “I feel very honored to represent my state and my country in this important competition. I’m training hard and dedicating myself to the maximum to bring home a medal”, declared.
The Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games will be held between November 16th and 27th, 2023, in the city of Santiago, Chile. The competition will bring together around 2 thousand athletes from 20 countries, in 17 sports.
