The 25-year-old Brazilian player has been cut from the next two matches for the Brazilian national team
West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá is being investigated by the English Football Association (FA) for possible sports betting violations. The 25-year-old player received a proposal of 70 million pounds (about R$ 437 million at the current quotation) from Manchester City, which had the deal stopped due to the investigations.
According to the English newspaper “Daily Mail”, the English federation is investigating bets made on accounts linked to people close to Lucas Paquetá. Bets would have been placed on a match in which the midfielder entered the pitch.
In England athletes are prohibited from placing bets, whether or not they are involved in the betting games.
The national team coach, Fernando Diniz, made his first call-up for the qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru, now in September. Diniz cut Paquetá from the list, when asked about the player’s situation he replied:
“I’m a guy who protects me in life is the truth. Paquetá was on the list, I like it a lot, and it’s not a prejudgment, on the contrary. It’s preservation, letting him resolve issues that go beyond football. For him and selection, leave more at ease to resolve. It was most suitable. We had this in Brazil and it needs time to clear up. I thought it pertinent thinking about Paquetá. I love him as a player, I have the best impressions even if I haven’t worked with him. The CBF will be open for when he solves these situations that appeared at the last minute”,
said Fernando Diniz, coach of the Brazilian national team during a press conference at CBF headquarters.
Lucas Paquetá is being investigated by the FA for breaches of sports betting rules.
That would be the reason for the negotiation with Manchester City to have melted.
