The Palestinian ambassador to Brazil, Ibrahim Alzeben, sent his interlocutors this Wednesday (11) a note issued by the Palestinian Journalists’ Union, based between Jerusalem and Ramallah, which states that press professionals are also targets of the Israeli Army.

In addition to the statement, Alzeben released a message of his own in which he “reprimands” journalists and asks for more attention to the coverage of the war that has broken out between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas.

“Journalists are called to open both eyes and ears to work honestly with themselves”, wrote the ambassador, in a message also received by the column. “What happens in Gaza is MASSACRE, A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY”, he also said, in bold letters.

In the statement relayed by the ambassador, the Palestinian Journalists’ Union lists a series of attacks recorded since the start of the confrontation. The organization states that, in the Gaza Strip alone, eight press professionals were murdered, two are missing, ten were injured and 40 press vehicles were bombed and completely destroyed.

A journalist, according to the union, was killed along with her husband and three children during an air strike that hit her home. Dozens of journalists also had their homes destroyed, she adds.

“The union calls on the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists and all international institutions affiliated with the United Nations and international human rights institutions to take measures to protect Palestinian journalists and end the crimes committed by the occupation [israelense] systematically and by an official government decision”, he says.

In an interview with the column on Tuesday (10), Ibrahim Alzeben rejected classifying the offensive undertaken by Hamas against Israel on Saturday (7), which triggered the confrontation, as terrorism, and said that, in fact, the Palestinian people are the great victims.

“The biggest [ato] terrorist in the world, for me, now, is the attitude of the State of Israel, which is turning an entire territory with its people, in the Gaza Strip, into ashes”, said the ambassador.

“The despair that our people have is the result of the attitude of successive Israeli governments,” he said. “We are victims of terrorism, regardless of the Brazilian government’s declaration”, he added, referring to a speech by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Alzeben landed in Ramallah, in the West Bank, a week ago, accompanied by his family, for his first vacation in seven years. Days later, he was surprised by a declaration of war. “I was received with fury, not with a vacation,” he told the column.
