The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), wants to develop a solution by this Friday (12) with minister Fernando Haddad (Finance) for the provisional measure that re-encumbers 17 sectors of the economy.
The economic team’s decision to forward the MP was seen by party leaders as an affront after the overturn of President Lula’s (PT) veto on payroll tax relief.
To avoid a rupture, the president of the Senate will talk to Haddad this week and try to forge a political solution by Friday. The intention is to study fiscal alternatives and exhaust the possibilities before adopting a drastic decision such as the return of the MP, which would increase tension between Congress and the government.
Faced with pressure from opposition leaders, however, the senator believes that the matter will need to be deliberated as soon as possible.
At the end of December, a few days after Congress overturned the veto on exemption, Haddad announced the gradual increase in the payroll based on activity, repealing the law enacted by Pacheco.
