The Otavio Frias Filho Chair for Studies in Communication, Democracy and Diversity, created by the IEA (Institute of Advanced Studies) at USP in partnership with Sheetwill hold this Tuesday (13) a meeting to discuss the relationship between complexity and order in life and society.
This is the second event of the chair’s 2023-2024 cycle, under the theme “Science, Communication and the Future”.
The meeting will take place online, at 3 pm, and will be attended by the physicist and professor at UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) Bruno Coelho Cesar Mota, as a lecturer, and the holder of the chair, Suzana Herculano-Houzel, as a debater .
Comments will be made by journalist and professor at IEA/USP André Chaves de Melo Silva, in addition to Vinicius Mota, secretary of the Sheetboth coordinators of the agency.
The conference intends to show that one of the essential characteristics of living beings is the complexity and self-organization of their own vital structures and how this spreads through society, philosophy and even simple everyday issues, even individual ones.
More generally, the challenge of contemporary science to identify and understand when and how complexity and order arise in species and in social, political, and economic organizations should also be discussed.
The chair was launched in February 2021, when the Sheet completed 100 years. The initiative honors journalist Otavio Frias Filho (1957-2018), who led the modernization project launched by the newspaper in 1984 and directed the newsroom until his death.
