Opposition calls for arrest of G. Dias when pointing out lies in testimony

After the former chief minister of the GSI in the Lula government, General Gonçalves Dias, took a statement at the CPMI on January 8, this Thursday (31), Senator Jorge Seif (PL-SC) formalized an arrest warrant against the deponent. Other opposition parliamentarians supported the request that was filed with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

For the senator, “the military seriously failed in its legal obligations, by not mobilizing troops to ensure the protection of the Planalto Palace, and did not execute the Escudo Plan”, he said.

According to Seif, the general did not act correctly even though he had been warned insistently and in advance by the Brazilian Intelligence Agency – ABIN, about the high risk of violent demonstrations on that date.

During the session, Corporal Gilberto Silva (PL-PB) informed the opposition’s initiative against the general. “The opposition has just filed a request for the arrest of former minister G. Dias for improper omission, prevarication and obstruction of justice when he falsified the letter sent to the National Congress”, he stated.

In the first part of his testimony, G. Dias admitted that he was wrong, but blamed the leadership of the Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF), with seven commanders arrested, and his direct subordinates in the GSI for the failures that led to the acts of vandalism. He also stated that he had only been in office for a week at the time of the invasion and was still physically settling into his office at the Palace. He ruled out that he was fired directly by Lula, but “by request”.
