Operation makes entities anticipate action against Bolsonaro – 05/03/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The search and seizure operation carried out by the Federal Police at the home of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) led civil society organizations to anticipate a campaign that will pressure the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) to declare the former president’s ineligibility.

Entitled “Tá Na Hora do Jair”, the mobilization is promoted by 15 entities and proposes to deliver to the electoral court “the biggest petition in the history of Brazil”. A text that will be published on the website that will collect the signatures cites the attacks on the ballot boxes promoted by Bolsonaro in a meeting with ambassadors, which took place last year, and the coup acts of January 8 as reasons for ineligibility, among other cases.

“We need to act now. Those who tried to destroy the game cannot return to the field”, say the organizations. “The ministers [do TSE] can start voting at any time. We need to show them that the Brazilian people want to get rid of Bolsonaro once and for all.”

The list of campaign organizers ranges from the Vladimir Herzog Institute to Abrasco (Brazilian Association of Collective Health) and the MTST (Movement of Homeless Workers). Signature collection should start this Wednesday (3).

According to the PF, Bolsonaro was aware of the fraudulent insertion of data into the Ministry of Health system. As evidence of the former president’s knowledge, the police mention the fact that his vaccination certificate was issued on the 22nd and 27th of December from the Planalto Palace.

In a decision that authorized the search and seizure this Wednesday, STF (Supreme Federal Court) Minister Alexandre de Moraes said it was not credible that Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s former assistant, articulated the scheme to the default and consent of the then Chief Executive.
