Operation closes ten illegal mines in the Amazon

Ten illegal mines were closed by security forces in the last 17 days in the Amazonian city of Maués, in the south of the state, according to a balance sheet released this weekend.

The balance sheet of the security task force in the Urupadi National Forest, R$ 4.5 million were also applied in fines to miners, informs Agência Brasil. The operation also seized 13 hydraulic excavators, a crawler tractor, six motorcycles, three quadricycles, 61 shacks, 16 power generator engines, 20 pump engines, seven dredgers, in addition to nine firearms and other equipment used in illegal mining, such as boats and mercury.

Agents from the Federal Police (PF), Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the National Force participated in the operation, as well as employees of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) and the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio).
