With servers on strike since Monday (29), the ANM (National Mining Agency) currently works with only 30% of its staff filled.

Of the 2,121 available positions, only 664 are occupied, which, in the perception of employees, generates scrap in dam inspection. They point to low wages as the reason for the stoppage and claim there is a 44% gap in relation to other agencies.

According to a report by the TCU (Tribunal de Contas da União), the ANM has 53 servants to supervise 918 dams.

In recent years, Brazil has experienced two serious accidents involving mining structures. The first took place in 2015 at the Fundão dam and dumped 40 million cubic meters of waste into the Doce River. Less than five years later, a similar tragedy happened in Brumadinho (MG), this time causing 270 deaths.
