Senator Omar Aziz (PSD) said he will investigate the possible relationship between the sale of a refinery in Bahia and the jewelry illegally brought to Brazil by the Bolsonaro government.
Recently elected to chair the Transparency and Oversight Commission, Senator Omar Aziz (PSD) said he will investigate the possible relationship between the sale of a refinery in Bahia and the jewelry illegally brought to Brazil by the Bolsonaro government entourage (PL).
What the senator said:
- Aziz said that the commission will investigate the sale of the Petrobras Landulpho Alves (RLAM) refinery, located in Bahia. According to him, the negotiation was made below the market price.
- According to the politician, the refinery was valued at approximately US$ 3 billion and was sold for US$ 1.8 billion in 2021.
- The senator said that, next week, he will meet with members of the commission to define the first steps of the investigation. He will ask for information cleared by the Federal Revenue Service and the Federal Police.
- The refinery was sold to the Mubadala Capital group, an investment fund from Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Aziz wants to investigate the possible connection between the low price paid and the jewelry given by Saudi Arabia to the Bolsonaro government. Countries are neighbors.
- A jewelry box, which would be a gift for the then First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro, was valued at more than R$ 16 million and there was an attempt to illegally bring the material into the country.
- This jewelry case was seized by the Federal Revenue in October 2021, when members of the government tried to enter the country without declaring the goods.
- Aziz said that the commission has already sent a request for documents to Petrobras regarding the price assessment of the refinery.
Any violation of the interests of the Union, related to the attempt to embezzle jewels, or any act that has generated advantages for authorities in this sale, will be taken to court for the punishment of those involved.”
Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM), recently elected to chair the Transparency and Oversight Commission, said he will investigate the possible relationship between the sale of a refinery and the jewelry received as a gift from the government of Saudi Arabia by the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
To the UOL, Aziz said “not to be judging anyone”. “The way it happened was quite strange. If it was a bribe of 3 million euros, it would be very difficult to transport on a normal flight. But this, transformed into a diamond, which never loses its value… [Há] added value there,” said the senator.
Landulpho Alves, now called Marataipe, produces diesel, gasoline, fuel and bunker oil, in addition to special products such as paraffin and propylene.
