Construction of the new structure is foreseen in the Growth Acceleration Program
Manaus (AM) – Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM) reinforced the need for urgency in the construction of a new Port of Manaus that meets the demand of regional shipping passengers. With around one million users per month, the port’s current structure was classified by the parliamentarian as “archaic and inadequate”.
This Tuesday morning (26), the senator highlighted that the amount of R$650 million for the construction of the new port is already guaranteed by the new Growth Acceleration Program (PAC). Omar said it is crucial to ensure speed in approving the project for the new structure and hopes this will happen next year.
Omar also highlighted the importance of logistics and infrastructure as a tool for tourism and other economic activities, emphasizing that Manaus airport also faces problems in the quality of service provided to the population. The parliamentarian also criticized the airport privatization process, stating that the situation has worsened since then, not only in Manaus, but throughout the country.
“When we talk about tourism, we need to talk about logistics and infrastructure. Another sad example we have is the airport, which is now a joke. The population needs to pay a very expensive ticket without receiving a suitable structure in return. The service is terrible, the airport closes at 4 am and only opens at noon. After it was privatized, it got much worse, not only in Manaus, but throughout Brazil”,
Omar pointed out.
The construction of the new Port of Manaus is seen by Omar as an essential measure to improve infrastructure and meet the needs of passengers and workers who use regional navigation in the region.
In the announcement of the new PAC, in August of this year, the Efficient and Sustainable Transport axis included investments in highways, railways, ports, airports and waterways in all states of Brazil in order to reduce the costs of national production for the domestic market and increase Brazil’s competitiveness abroad. The planned investment in Amazonas in this axis is R$5.9 billion.
