The institutional website of Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), of the federal government, “institutionalized” the impeachment process of former president Dilma Rousseff (PT) in 2016 as a “coup”. In the presentation text of the new presidency of the company, the body states that its Board of Trustees, extinguished by a Provisional Measure of former president Michel Temer (MDB), was “revoked after the 2016 coup”.

“By orientation of the Minister of Social Communication of the Presidency (Secom), Paulo Pimenta, the transition will be carried out by workers from the Company, representatives of society and professionals in the area. Four other women who will assume management positions were also nominated for the transition process at EBC: Juliana Cézar Nunes, EBC employee; Rita Freire, president of the Board of Trustees of the EBC removed after the 2016 coup; and the journalists Nicole Briones and Flávia Filipini”, says the EBC presentation.

In another part of the presentation, EBC again highlights the “coup” in the presentation of the resume of the new president of the body, Kariane Costa Silva Oliveira. “An EBC candidate since 2012, she was a journalist for the Ombudsman, a radio reporter, and a sectorist for the Planalto Palace and the National Congress. Throughout her career at EBC, she conducted exclusive interviews with ministers and other political authorities. She participated in coverage of important moments in the country, such as the 2014, 2016 and 2018 elections; the coup against Dilma Rousseff; judgments at the Federal Supreme Court and several popular demonstrations”, says the publication.

Yesterday, the chief minister of the Presidency’s Secretariat for Social Communication (Secom), Paulo Pimenta, said that his biggest challenge at the helm of the portfolio will be to recover Secom as a “truth transmitter” and a reliable source of information. The minister also returned to defend the regulation of the media in the country, stating that this is not about censorship.
