In a custody hearing held on Monday (31), 11 out of 13 arrested in the last operation in the region of Cracolândia, in the center of São Paulo, were released by the court. Just two arrests were converted to preventive. All people were accused of Drug dealing during an operation by the Civil Police, last Sunday (30).

Police action focused on Rua dos Gusmões, downtown São Paulo, a new location where the flow of drug users has been concentrated for about two months. According to information from the Civil Police, the majority of those arrested were scouts, as people responsible for monitoring the entrances to Cracolândia are called in criminal slang. According to Secretary of Public Security of São Pauloonly in the last operation in Cracolândia were apprehended 16 packages with the synthetic drug K9, three tablets and 39 marijuana packaging, 26 wrappers with cocaine and two packs of crack. Precision scales, tents and umbrellas were collected.

The only two people who had their arrest decreed were with cocaine when they were stopped by the police. One of them had been arrested red-handed in March for stealing a cell phone. Before, he had been arrested twice for theft in Cotia, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, and was released after undergoing a custody hearing.

The second person arrested also has a passage by the police for trafficking, in 2019. At the time, he was arrested with cocaine, marijuana and crack. After trial she was sentenced to five years under house arrest.

In another operation in Cracolândia, in early July, the police arrested 18 people. On the occasion, the Justice maintained the arrest of 12 of them. Actions have intensified in the region, amid attempts by the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), to stifle drug trafficking.
