Nunes Management fires employees who worked with Marta – 01/20/2024 – Panel

The Ricardo Nunes (MDB) administration has fired employees from the Secretariat of International Relations who worked with Marta Suplicy, who left the administration to rejoin the PT and be Guilherme Boulos’ (PSOL) vice-president in the municipal election.

Although the change can be seen as natural given the change in head of the department (which will be taken over by Aldo Rebelo), the way in which the layoffs have been handled has generated suspicion of retaliation.

Employees were told that they should collect their belongings and leave the building within a few minutes, without any conversation with hierarchical superiors or even presentation of justification for the dismissal. According to reports, a server was alerted that the Metropolitan Civil Guard would be called if she did not leave quickly. To date, there have been at least six layoffs.

The employees had varying degrees of relationship with Marta, some closer and others distant.

In a note, the city hall states that the employees held positions of trust and that the change of ownership in the department requires the availability of vacancies for the reorganization of the team, “which, naturally, must belong to the new owner”.

Marta’s departure from municipal management was marked by tension. Nunes was upset that he had not been informed by the then secretary that she was negotiating with President Lula (PT) the possibility of being Boulos’ vice-president.

After a meeting, Nunes and Marta announced that she was leaving the government by mutual agreement on January 9th. Days later, however, the dismissal in the Official Gazette did not use the expression “upon request”, which is customary in cases of amicable departure between the parties.
