Nunes fires CEU teachers where boy died after being hanged by net – 01/05/2024 – Panel

Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) decided to fire three teachers from CEU (Unified Educational Center) Meninos, in Sacomã, south zone of São Paulo, where, in August 2022, a boy aged 1 year and 7 months died on a football field . The dismissals were made official in the Official Gazette of the Municipality this Friday (5).

According to an investigation by the Civil Police, the fatality occurred when two daycare classes went to do an after-school activity on a football field inside the CEU, at which point Enrico Braga Souza got tangled up in the netting of one of the goalposts and died from hanging.

“The boy put his head through the plot and hanged himself. He was left with his feet on the ground, but his hand couldn’t reach the ground, he was left hanging on his side. He was unable to return, to stand up”, explained police chief Douglas Torres, from 95th DP (Heliópolis), responsible for the investigation.

At the time, the Police were working with the hypothesis that culpable homicide had occurred, that is, without intention.

The teachers were dismissed in the interest of public service, a penalty imposed when irregularities are identified in the performance of their duties.
