The campaign for the re-election of the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), intends to highlight resurfacing in the city as one of the flagships of its list of achievements.
According to city hall data, 5.89 million m² of asphalt were placed in the city in the last 11 months, against 3.86 million m² in the entire Fernando Haddad (PT) administration, between 2013 and 2016, an increase of 52%.
The management of João Doria and Bruno Covas (2017 to 2021) resurfaced 9.87 million m², an annual average of 2.46 million, or 40% of the pace of Nunes.
One of the comparisons made by Nunes’ allies is that the length of resurfacing in the city is equivalent to the distance between São Paulo and Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay (1,950 km).
Criticized for janitorial problems and for the fact that his administration did not have a defined brand, Nunes decided to bet on asphalt coverage works as a showcase. The assessment is that they are relatively simple to implement and have an immediate impact on citizens’ daily lives.
