Nunes bars name for Communication for supporting Father Julio – 03/03/2023 – Panel

The journalist Chico Mendonça, favored to assume the Communications Secretariat of the Ricardo Nunes (MDB) administration in São Paulo, was vetoed for having published messages on social networks in which he expresses support for Father Júlio Lancellotti, who has publicly antagonized the emedebista.

Mendonça even spent the last few days at the city hall to gain more familiarity with the position, currently occupied by Marcus Vinicius Sinval, who should soon leave the post.

On his Twitter, Mendonça shared a petition in support of the nomination of Father Júlio Lancelotti for the Nobel Peace Prize on June 26, 2022. After becoming aware of this, the city hall withdrew from hiring the journalist.

Nunes and Lancellotti have publicly antagonized each other. Last week, the mayor published a text in the Sheet in which he defended his programs for the homeless population. Days later, the priest wrote a reply to the newspaper in which he criticized the mayor’s arguments, which he accused of encouraging aporophobia. [aversão aos pobres].

Lancellotti’s proximity to federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP) had a special impact on Mendonça’s withdrawal. The leader of the MTST (Movement of Homeless Workers) is expected to run for mayor in 2024 against Nunes and has been one of the main critics of the current municipal management.

More recently, Boulos and Lancellotti jointly sued the Justice and obtained an injunction preventing the São Paulo City Hall from removing tents and other belongings from homeless people.

The parliamentarian decided to donate to the religious the equivalent of the moving allowance granted to parliamentarians at the beginning of their term for the trip to Brasília, in the amount of R$ 28,400, as shown by the Mônica Bergamo column.
