Nunes also says he maintains respect for Marta and minimizes the impact on Boulos – 01/10/2024 – Power

Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) stated, this Wednesday (10), that former mayor Marta Suplicy confirmed to him that she had accepted to be vice-president on the ticket of his opponent Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) in the election for the Mayor of São Paulo.

In a move to return to PT, Marta left Nunes’ management this Tuesday (9), after a conversation between them at city hall.

“The page has turned. When I had confirmation of what was happening, it was up to me to call her to talk and understand. Our relationship is good. […] She did a good job. […] It won’t affect the issue of my respect for her, but there was no way I could continue in a situation like that”, said Nunes.

Asked if he had suffered betrayal, the mayor replied that he would not attribute it to Marta. “That word is very strong. […] It was mismatched, obviously. I don’t need to say it, you followed, the facts are there.”

After the meeting, both announced that the dismissal was by mutual agreement. The dismissal recorded in the Official Gazette this Wednesday, however, does not record that the departure was “by request”.

This Wednesday, Nunes reaffirmed that the departure “was a mutually agreed decision”. “She follows her normal path. I follow mine. What happened, happened. It’s up to each person’s assessment and interpretation,” he added.

Asked about the electoral impact of the union between Marta and Boulos, Nunes minimized the possible strengthening of his rival and said he will present his achievements in the campaign. He also needled the PSOL deputy and the former secretary herself, saying that he did not act behind his back.

“[Marta como vice de Boulos] It does not represent a risk at this moment, we will know this later, when there is research. […] I have a lot to show. I’m going to put in the things I’m doing,” she said.

“I think there is a fundamental issue which is legal security. I have never invaded anyone’s anything, I have always respected the laws. I am a polite and cordial person. This episode shows that, I did nothing behind anyone’s back”, he added.
