French justice is investigating whether a former president of the National Assembly tried to obtain tax advantages from the government for Paris Saint-Germain when the club hired Neymar in 2017, sources close to the case told AFP, confirming information from the newspaper Libération.
In a report sent on November 21 to an investigating magistrate, to which AFP had access this Wednesday (3), investigators wonder about a possible case of “influence peddling” that would involve Hugues Renson, former deputy from the party of President Emmanuel Macron and former vice-president of the French National Assembly.
The report is the result of exchanges of messages over ten years found on the phone of former PSG communications director Jean-Martial Ribes, who allegedly “unequivocally requested” the services of Renson, deputy for Paris (2017-2022) and who was also an advisor to former French president Jacques Chirac.
In return, Renson, who now works for the electricity company EDF, “benefited from numerous tickets to PSG games,” as well as other benefits, during his time as deputy.
Sources close to the case assured that the investigation into the conditions for monitoring Neymar’s clause is in its initial phase.
None of the parties mentioned responded to AFP contacts.
