On the morning of this Tuesday (14), the Federal Police are carrying out eight preventive arrest warrants and 13 search and seizure warrants in the sixth phase of Operation Lesa Pátria, which seeks those involved in the January 8 acts that culminated in the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasilia.

At this stage of the operation, the warrants are fulfilled in the states of Goiás, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Sergipe and São Paulo. The police seek to identify people who had some kind of participation in the acts, through financing, promotion or even omission.

Those investigated in this sixth phase of Operation Lesa Pátria can be indicted for the crimes of violent abolition of the Democratic State of Law, coup d’état, qualified damage, criminal association, incitement to crime, destruction and deterioration or destruction of specially protected property.

Until the last phase of Operation Lesa Pátria, which took place last week, the Federal Police had served 17 warrants for preventive arrest, 3 for temporary arrest and 37 for search and seizure.

Among those arrested preventively last week is the former head of the Operational Department of the Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF), Colonel Jorge Eduardo Naime Barreto, responsible for drawing up the security plan to contain the demonstration. He was off duty on the day of the protests and was dismissed shortly after the decree of federal intervention in public safety in the Federal District.

Operation takes place after AGU asks for final conviction

The sixth phase of Operation Lesa Pátria takes place one day after the Advocacy-General of the Union (AGU) asked for the final condemnation of 54 individuals, two companies, an association and a union that were initially targeted by an injunction to cover the damage caused. to public buildings estimated at R$ 20.7 million.

According to the AGU, some of those involved directly financed the caravans that took demonstrators to Brasília that weekend, and the aforementioned participants were “aware that the movement in organization could cause the event as it occurred”, it said in a dispatch.

In total, the AGU has already filed four lawsuits against those accused of financing or directly participating in the acts of January 8th. In three of them, Justice has already ordered the blocking of assets of those involved so that, in the event of a subsequent conviction, the amounts will be used to reimburse public assets.

As defendants in these actions are a total of 178 individuals, in addition to two companies, an association and a union. “The AGU should also soon file a request to convert the other three precautionary measures into public civil action, which relate to those arrested in flagrante delicto for the depredation of the buildings at Praça dos Três Poderes”, completes the note from the AGU.
