This content is about a fact that is still being investigated by the editorial team. We will have more information soon.
This Monday (8), the Federal Police launched the 23rd phase of Operation Lesa Pátria, which seeks to identify people allegedly linked to the acts of January 8, 2023 that led to the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers. 46 search and seizure warrants and one preventive arrest warrant were executed in 11 states and the Federal District.
Initially, the PF had announced that there would be two preventive arrest warrants, but shortly afterwards corrected it to just one.
The targets of this new phase of Lesa Pátria are people who allegedly financed the invasions of the headquarters of the Three Powers. In addition to the warrants, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), also authorized the freezing of the assets of those involved.
The objective of blocking the assets is to reach sufficient values to reimburse the public coffers for resources in the order of R$40 million spent on the restoration of the sites invaded on that date.
According to the PF, search and seizure warrants are carried out in DF (5) and Rio Grande do Sul (13), Bahia (3), Mato Grosso (10), Goiás (2), Minas Gerais (2), Maranhão (4), Paraná (1), Rondônia (1), São Paulo (1), Tocantins (3) and Santa Catarina (2).
The arrest was ordered against a resident of Bahia who had chartered a bus to take protesters to Brasília, according to the TV Globo. The PF does not confirm the target or motive.
Images released by the PF shortly after the launch of the operation point to the seizure of documents.
“The facts investigated constitute, in theory, the crimes of violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d’état, qualified damage, criminal association, incitement to crime, destruction and deterioration or destruction of specially protected property”, said the PF in a note .
The new phase of Operation Lesa Pátria takes place exactly one year after the events of January 8, on the day on which several events are scheduled in Brasília in reference to the date, such as the ceremony that will be held at 3pm at the National Congress.
More information in a moment.
