Impasse resolved Initially, in a report presented in December, the rapporteur defended a redistribution of the total workload, with an increase in mandatory subjects to 2,100 hours, below what the MEC wanted. As the government wanted: Make the Portuguese language and its literature mandatory every year; English language; Spanish language; art; physical education; mathematics; history, geography, sociology and philosophy; and physics, chemistry and biology. As the rapporteur proposes: Make languages ​​and their technologies mandatory every year, integrated by the Portuguese language and its literatures; English language; arts, in their multiple languages ​​and expressions; and physical education; mathematics and its technologies; natural sciences and their technologies, integrated by biology, physics and chemistry; applied human and social sciences, integrated by philosophy, geography, history and sociology. ➡️ TRAINING ITINERARIES As it is today: the networks define how many and which training itineraries they will offer. Each school should offer at least two itineraries. As the rapporteur proposes: delimitation of training itineraries for deepening the areas of knowledge, each of which must include at least one of these areas; or technical and professional training course. Each school must offer at least two itineraries (except those that also offer technical education). ➡️ TECHNICAL EDUCATION HOURS How it is: 1,200 hours (equivalent to the load of other optional subjects). As the government wanted: Exceptional permission for networks to offer mandatory subjects in 2,100 hours, as long as they are combined with a technical course of at least 800 hours. As the rapporteur proposes: 1,800 hours for mandatory subjects; and 1,200 hours for the chosen technical course (different from the load of other optional subjects). ➡️ DISTANCE LEARNING How it is today: Legislation allows content to be delivered through online activities and education systems to sign agreements with distance education institutions. As the government wanted: Prohibit the offering of the curricular components of Basic General Training in the Distance Education modality and regulate the offering of this modality in specific contexts for training itineraries.
