New AM federal bench meets with Arthur Lira in Brasilia

Manaus (AM) – The new bench of federal deputies from Amazonas will meet, this Tuesday night (17), with the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP), to discuss the election of the new Board of Directors of the federal Legislative House. At the meeting, which will take place in Brasilia, the parliamentarians also intend to discuss the main demands of the state.

Less than two weeks before the election of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies, scheduled to take place on February 1st, the articulations for choosing the new members have already started.

In this scenario of dialogue and search for support, the eight federal deputies elected by Amazonas will participate in a dinner at the official residence of the president of the Chamber of Deputies Arthur Lira.

To Em Tempo, the elected federal deputy, Fausto Júnior (União Brasil), stated that he was invited by Arthur Lira to participate in the meeting in Brasília. He also highlighted that he will support Lira’s re-election as president of the House, considering that the current president has a “neutral” posture.

“There is no other candidacy, as he has been consolidating his re-election for being a deputy, who, like the majority of the Chamber, did not support Lula and has a neutral stance. In addition to being the only name capable of mediating the debate in parliament, ensuring that each parliamentarian can act fully and independently in their mandate”.

Federal deputy Silas Câmara (Republicans) confirmed to Em Tempo that he will attend the meeting at Arthur Lira’s residence.

The parliamentarian also pointed out that the meeting aims to bring the new federal bench of Amazonas closer to Lira, as well as to bring to the discussion the interests of Amazonas, such as the strengthening of the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM), and “our challenges as a for example in this environmental area, the defense of development and property in our state”.

“Also the election for president that will take place on February 1st. Therefore, it is a very important opportunity to obtain these commitments from President Arthur Lira”,

stated.

The advisory of the elected deputy Amom Mandel (Cidadania) informed Em Tempo that the parliamentarian will talk both with President Arthur Lira, as well as with other candidates for the Board of Directors regarding the agendas related to Amazonas.

“Whoever submits proposals that include the necessary space for the Amazonas bench to act effectively will have my vote of confidence”,

said Amon Mandel.

Election for President and Board of Directors

On February 1, the 513 elected federal deputies will take office in the Federal Chamber. Then, the election for the presidency and the Board of Directors will take place, with the favorite for the command in the next two years the current president Arthur Lira.

Even though Lira is the most quoted for the position, the seams for the other positions on the board of directors are also beginning to unravel. The fight for the vice-presidency is concentrated between the PL and the PT. The position is highly coveted by the parties precisely because if the president is removed, the vice president will take the place.

Lira assumed the presidency of the House in February 2021. Throughout his performance, the deputy formed an alliance with the Bolsonaro government. Currently, with the Lula government, the president is seeking re-election with the PT and other parties on the left. Also in November, the PT Federation, PC do B and PV, together with the PSB, officially supported Lira.
