Nestlé Professional, the company’s out-of-home consumption division, starts using 100% recyclable cups in partner commercial establishments, such as coffee shops, bars and restaurants. The replacement of non-recyclable cups with those made from varnish-coated paper began in September this year, and should continue until May 2024. With this, Nestlé hopes to reduce around 100 tons of non-recyclable material in circulation.

“Until recently, there were no options for disposable cups made from a single material. The internal film that covered the cups made recycling impossible. Therefore, we looked for a viable solution for our business and our partners, and one that was beneficial to the environment”, says Rodrigo Maingue, executive director of Nestlé Professional. Annually, Nestlé Professional sells around 15 million cups.

The initiative is part of a series of measures taken by the brand on its sustainable journey, such as the search for machines that use less energy and packaging that uses less ink. The day also includes measures to train professionals in the food sector, such as Nestlé Futuros Baristas and the Young Culinary Talents program.
