Itacoatiara (AM) — On Rua 7 de Setembro, Prainha neighborhood, with the Piçarreiras neighborhood, in the municipality of Itacoatiara, residents report the neglect of the current administration of Mayor Mário Abrahim. Daughter of a local businessman, Ingrid Nascimento reports that many of the children who study nearby have to cross flooded streets during the rainy season, where several accidents occur.

“When it rains, it floods and that black water arrives with people’s ‘needs’, children from the school nearby walk over the filthy water. The feces come, as it clogs it, it creates a bad smell, which we can’t stand.”

In addition to the waste identified by residents, animals such as alligators and snakes are no longer seen with surprise by residents of precarious areas of the municipality, due to the floods that bring the animals.

“Any bit of rain floods our house and the more it rains, the more the hole gets bigger. A candidate enters and a candidate leaves and our street on the map says that it is already paved, but I don’t see it. And there’s no one to look after us here. Mainly mine, which is above the bathroom. And this bathroom is blocked, even snakes, frogs, everything gets in”,

comments the resident, Maria do Desterro, owner of the residence where the worst part of the street is located.

“It’s neglected, the manhole has already fallen to half, when the street floods here it becomes impassable. The bus that used to pass here no longer passes, several accidents involving pedestrians and motorcyclists. Here in Prainha and Piçarreiras, we were forgotten. We’ve made demands to the city hall several times and still nothing, you know, I don’t know who to cry out to anymore.”, reports resident, Elenildo de Freitas.

Difficulty in circulation

Living on Rua 15 de Novembro, in the Pedreiras neighborhood, for 14 years, resident Elen Regina says that the bushes and lack of bridge make it difficult for residents to get around.

“Street full of holes, bushes, broken bridge, broken wooden bridge, there’s no way we can fix them. When it rains here it fills up a lot and creates a lot of animals. Alligator, snake, my father had to come up and expand our house, with money from our pockets. Nobody shows up here.”

Not only do residents make complaints to the management, Francisco Júnior, a motorcyclist who travels through the city’s streets, reports that within the neighborhoods the situation is increasingly precarious.

“Some streets have been repaired, paved perfectly, but within the neighborhoods the situation is precarious. The population wants a response from the competent bodies responsible for the asphalt structure.”

O In time contacted the Itacoatiara City Council. In response, the advisory indicated that questioning the residents’ difficulties is an “opposition attack”.
