National Immunization Coordinator visits Amapá – News of Brazil

The governor of Amapá, Clecio Luis, received at the Palácio do Setentrião the director of the National Immunization Program (PNI), Eder Gatti. At the meeting held on Thursday, the 13th, it was informed that the Ministry of Health (MS) is carrying out negotiations to advance the vaccination campaign against Influenza for the states of the North Region, due to the fact that the rainy season is different from the rest of the country .
The measure guarantees the protection of the immune system for the seasonal period, the so-called “Amazonian winter”, when the rains are more intense in the region, while in other regions it is summer.
“Our forecast is that the campaign against influenza arrives earlier in the North Region. We have already purchased 7.5 million doses, we want to distribute them in October and start immunization in November. We combine this in GTVS [Grupo de Trabalho de Vigilância em Saúde, do MS]which guaranteed the purchase of vaccines, and we still need to reach an agreement to implement this strategy”said Eder Gatti.
The Secretary of Health, Silvana Vedovelli, and the Superintendent of Health Surveillance, Margareth Gomes, also participated in the visit. Responsible for the Department of Immunization and Vaccine-preventable Diseases, Gatti and the technical team visit Amapá to start the 2023 National Multivaccination Campaign across the country. The launch will take place on Saturday, 15th, “D-Day”, from 9am to 12pm, at Praça Veiga Cabral, in the center of Macapá.
Leader against Influenza
With the mobilization of the State Government and the transfer of R$ 2.7 million to the 16 municipalities, Amapá was the first state in the country to reach, and exceed, the Ministry of Health’s target for vaccination against influenza, with almost 100% coverage.
Even though it is not a routine vaccine, the campaign was intensified due to the outbreak of respiratory syndromes registered in the state in April in the state.
The national example is also repeated in the reach of the campaign against poliomyelitis, also known as infantile paralysis, with more than 95% of vaccination coverage.
“We obey a calendar that has nothing to do with our reality, with our Amazonian winter. The seasonal period causes this. This year, what happened coincided with low vaccination coverage. So, if the campaign takes place before, it covers it before, it greatly reduces the possibility of serious cases. Therefore, I reinforce the importance of vaccination. Parents and guardians, take advantage of the multivaccination campaign and take your children and adolescents”highlighted the governor clecio Luís.
Multivaccination and planning
The national campaign that starts on Saturday will continue until the 30th of July, with the aim of mobilizing parents or guardians to take their children to update their vaccination card.
This year, the Ministry of Health’s national campaign is aimed at children and adolescents up to 15 years of age. In Basic Health Units (UBSs), doses of 17 types of immunizers provided for in the national vaccination schedule will be available for this public:

- Hepatitis B
- Penta (DTP/Hib/Hep. B)
- Pneumococcal 10-valent
- Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV)
- Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV)
- Human Rotavirus Vaccine (VRH)

- Yellow fever

- Covid-19 (which is not routine but will also be made available)
The national immunization coordinator and the technical team also carried out the micro-planning of actions with the municipalities of Amapá. Topics such as analysis of the health situation, identification of locations with low vaccination coverage, information systems, as well as the identification of strategies to improve vaccination coverage based on local reality were addressed.
The application of microplanning has been carried out in Multivaccination Actions that take place throughout the country this year. The Ministry of Health also announced this July that R$ 150 million will be invested in extra resources to support states and municipalities in carrying out micro-planning and multi-vaccination.
