The US Virgin Islands have subpoenaed Tesla CEO Elon Musk to provide documents in the process in which the US territory accuses the bank JPMorgan Chase of ignoring several warnings about the behavior of Jeffrey Epstein, accused of sexual exploitation of minors and sex trafficking.

According to a court filing published Monday in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, the Virgin Islands issued a subpoena to Musk on April 28.

The suit says Musk may have been taken to JPMorgan by Epstein, but did not provide further explanation of the interest in obtaining documents from the billionaire.

Musk did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.

The Virgin Islands accuses JPMorgan of ignoring warnings about Epstein’s abuse of women in Little St. James, a private island he owned in the archipelago.

The bank says it should not be held responsible for a former executive’s relationship with Epstein, who committed suicide in 2019 in a New York prison cell while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

The subpoena sought all communications between the billionaire and JPMorgan involving Epstein, as well as communications between Musk and Epstein. It also asked for documents relating to fees Musk paid to Epstein or JPMorgan involving the billionaire’s bank accounts, and documents referring to Epstein’s involvement in sex trafficking.

The details were part of a request by the Virgin Islands to serve the subpoena to Musk through alternate means, because the government was unable to serve an initial subpoena to Musk at Tesla or through an attorney who has agreed to represent Musk in the past.
