Múcio will meet with military commanders to discuss article 142 – 02/18/2023 – Panel

Next week, Defense Minister José Múcio should seek out military commanders to discuss the proposals that have emerged from changes in article 142 of the Constitution, which deals with the Armed Forces.
As shown by the Panel, PT deputies intend to present an amendment with changes to the constitutional text.
Among the suggested changes are the prohibition of active-duty military personnel exercising civil functions in the government, the drastic restriction of GLO operations (Guarantee da Lei da Ordem) and a clearer wording of the article, which does not allow distortions such as that there would be a supposed “moderating power” of the Armed Forces.
The PT itself is cautious about how to introduce these changes, and intends that they be negotiated with the military. Múcio intends to participate in this process and act as an intermediary with the heads of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
