A group of around 1,500 members of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) invaded this Monday (10) the headquarters of the National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra), in Maceió (AL). They demand the dismissal of the body’s superintendent, César Lira, cousin of the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP).

In addition to the MST, members of six other entities have been camped in Maceió since Sunday afternoon (9). The Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) also participates in the action; National Fight Front (FNL); Landless Liberation Movement (MLST); Land Struggle Movement (MLT); Land, Work and Freedom Movement (MTL) and Free Land Movement.

Since January, these organizations have been asking for the dismissal of César Lira. “The continuity of Bolsonarist management is unacceptable. Why does the Lula government maintain for so long (more than one hundred days in office) a superintendent who is an enemy of Agrarian Reform and has a history of violence against leaders and communities?”, question the entities, in a note.

“We occupy and demand that Minister Paulo Teixeira take the administrative measures, resume the Agrarian Reform agenda, undertake the improvement of structures in the reformed areas and support the production of healthy food. Incra is a strategic public body and should be a mechanism in collaboration to remove the country from the hunger map”, they say.
