MST blames Lula and invades Embrapa Pernambuco for the 2nd time this year

The Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) invaded, this Monday (31), the structure of the Semi-Arid Show, an event held in Petrolina (PE) by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) with the Ministry of Agriculture and Supply ( Map). More than 1550 groups linked to the MST are in the space of the fair scheduled to take place from the 1st to the 4th of August. This is the second time that the MST has invaded the area.

In a note, the MST reported that “the reoccupation during the event aims to draw the attention of the authorities to the emergence of the implementation of the Agrarian Reform, considering that since the negotiations with the competent bodies, there has been no progress in the agendas and the agreements have been stagnant “.

“We elected the Lula government and we need the ministry to fulfill its role in meeting the demands of agrarian reform and to be able to fulfill the policies aimed at social movements and not just serve the interests of agribusiness”, mentions Jaime Amorim, from the MST directorate in state.

According to the MST, the agreement says that the area would be vacated as long as part of the two thousand hectares of land owned by Embrapa was destined for agrarian reform. In addition, the MST claims that the government has undertaken to carry out surveys of Codevasf, Chesf and Dnocs areas for the purposes of agrarian reform in the region. Another point demanded is the transformation of the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra) into a superintendence.

“We do not want to disturb the Seminar Show, but at the same time we will not allow it to be held if the minimum of the minimum is not fulfilled, so that we can organize things and families can at least be settled”, reinforces the MST.

The last MST invasion of Embrapa headquarters in Pernambuco took place on April 17 of this year. At the time, the company issued a note calling the MST’s action “unacceptable” and stated that it would take the appropriate measures to resolve the situation.

Mapa and Embrapa have not yet taken a position on the new MST invasion.
