The Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office for Citizens’ Rights in Rio Grande do Norte filed a public civil action against the Union for “active and willful conduct by the then commanders of the Navy, Army and Air Force at the time of the anti-democratic demonstrations and camps”.
According to the document, the military summit encouraged the maintenance and continuity of the coup camps across the country, including the one set up in Natal, by issuing a note on November 11, 2022 in which they considered the actions of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) supporters that incited animosity against the other Powers as a legitimate exercise of freedom of expression and assembly.
The Republic attorneys understood that the conduct of the then Forces chiefs was “an episode of military politicization in violation of Article 142 of the Constitution”.
In the action, the MPF argues that the conduct of the military contributed to the coup acts of January 8. The value of the action is R$ 5 million.
