It is a councilor from Salvador who dances in a viral video, not the Minister of Education – 04/12/2023 – Power

Videos on social networks lie when claiming to be the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana (PT), dancing on the stage of an event – ​​the posts, in a derogatory tone, suggest that a minister could not do this in public. From the images it is easy to recognize that it is not Santana, who does not have completely white hair, like the man in the recording.

Who appears dancing, as verified by Projeto Comprova, is Henrique Carballal (PDT), councilor from Salvador who published the images on his Instagram profile on March 25 and whose post went viral before being used to disparage Minister Santana, as shown by the Correio Braziliense in a report on April 6. In the post, Carballal says he participated in a lecture for educators at Uneb (University of the State of Bahia) within the Mais Infância project, which aims to expand the training of educators —he is a history teacher, as shown in his description on Instagram .

To the report, his press office informed that the dance is part of the História Cantada initiative, which uses dance and singing “to transmit knowledge in a playful way”.

On the Bahia Notícias no Ar program, the councilor said he had met with the legal department to discuss what measures he would take against those who attacked him.

False, for Comprova, is content that was invented or that has been edited to change its original meaning and deliberately disseminated to spread a falsehood.

Comprova investigates suspicious content with greater reach on social networks. Until April 11, the post on TikTok had accumulated 943.5 thousand views, 42.6 thousand shares, 26.1 thousand likes and 9.5 thousand comments.

How do we check

After watching the video used in the disinformation pieces, it was possible to conclude that it was not Camilo Santana because of the physical characteristics of the man who appears dancing. But the report still needed to find out who appeared on the recording. One of the verified posts shows video with text headlines at the bottom typical of television channels. In them, it is possible to read “little dance” and “training event”. A search for these terms on Google resulted in a publication on the Brado Jornal website, which claimed to be Councilman Carballal.

Comprova sent a private message to @ednocordeiro on TikTok. There was no response until the publication of this check.

What can we learn from this check

One sign that this is a piece of disinformation is the quality of the images. When it is low, as in this case, be suspicious. Misinformers reduce the quality to make elements of the content harder to identify, as happened here. The original video, posted on Carballal’s Instagram, is much more defined. Another clear indication when we analyze the post on TikTok: there is a text box placed over the face of the councilor in most of the video, but, if it really was the minister, why the attempt to hide his face? From this question the reader could already suspect.

An important step when we come across dubious content is to search the internet. Even those who don’t know what Camilo Santana’s face looks like could quickly conclude that it is fake content after a simple search for photos of him on Google.
