MPF asks Damares for compensation for misinformation about child abuse

The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) in Pará filed a public civil action against the former minister and current senator Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF) and the Union, asking them to pay compensation of R$5 million to the population of the Marajó Archipelágo, in Pará, for alleged accusations of “violent sexual practices and torture with children”. The decision can still be challenged by the accused.

The action refers to a video, which circulated on the internet in October last year, where the former minister spoke about alleged crimes in the region – such as children from Marajó being trafficked abroad and being subjected to body mutilation and diets. that facilitate sexual abuse. The MPF claims that Damares did not present evidence of the alleged crimes mentioned.

According to the MPF, Damares also said that “the number of rapes of newborns has exploded” and that in the ministry “there are images of eight-day-old children being raped”. “We discovered that a video of child rape costs between R$50,000 and R$100,000. There is organized crime involved in this, there is blood, there is death, there is sacrifice”, says Damares during a service.

In the demonstration, the MPF reinforces that none of the accusations made by the former minister were confirmed and that is why they ask for compensation and reparation for collective social and moral damages “due to untruths and misinformation uttered”. “The MMFDH did not verify the records of the very serious crimes narrated by its own former minister”, explains the MPF.

“By presenting contradictory and unsustainable justifications, without any proof regarding her public statements, the declarant herself corroborates that she used false sensationalist information to deliberately promote an electoral campaign for the benefit of the then President of the Republic. And, with such conduct, generated collective social and moral damage to the population of Marajó”, adds the agency.

In addition to the compensation of R$5 million in favor of social projects destined for the Marajó region, the amount being divided equally between Senator Damares and the Union, the MPF also asked for “the retraction of the untruths uttered” on social media and official vehicles of the government.

In a statement, the parliamentarian’s office reinforced that “the senator expects the MPF to be relentless in the hunt for abusers and sexual exploiters of children and adolescents and in the same sense to act, in an increasingly incisive way, in the search for missing children in Brazil” .
