The Superior Council of the Public Ministry of Pará approved, this Wednesday (3), the archiving of the inquiry into the possibility of false documents in the accounts of the NGO Projeto Saúde e Alegria, which for 36 years has been promoting local development in communities in the state of Pará. For.

“We verified by sampling that the invoices recorded in the entity’s accounting are fully compatible and legitimate with the invoices presented by the Finance Department of the municipality of Santarém”, states the technical note from the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The conclusion was the basis for the decision to archive it, signed in May last year by the 12th Public Prosecutor’s Office of Santarém, but approved only now by the Superior Council of the body.

The investigation derived from the inquiry by the Civil Police of Pará that arrested four volunteer brigade members in Alter do Chão (PA), on November 26, 2019, accused of setting fire to an area of the APA Alter do Chão. That same day, the Civil Police seized equipment and documents at the headquarters of the Saúde e Alegria Project, where one of the brigade members worked.

The initial investigation generated a second inquiry aimed only at investigating the documents of the Saúde e Alegria Project.

The brigadistas were cleared in August 2020, with the filing of the first investigation by the Federal Police – which took over the case, since APA Alter do Chão belongs to the Union.

The approval of the accounts for Saúde e Alegria was only concluded this Wednesday, just as the Senate is preparing to set up the CPI on NGOs in the Amazon, which intends to investigate public transfers to foreigners and the alleged activities of front organizations.

“The approval of our bills proves exactly the opposite of everything they accuse us of. And just like us, the vast majority of organizations are serious. The NGOs do extremely important work and the country would certainly be worse off without them”, he says to Sheet the coordinator of Saúde e Alegria, Caetano Scannavino.

“What happened to the brigadistas and to the Saúde e Alegria Project should serve as an example so that it never happens again in a democratic society. pushing the envelope to sell the untruth that NGOs misuse resources, among others. May this episode awaken a new reading of society in relation to the Third Sector”, he concludes.
