Civil society entities promote the Sustainable Parliamentary Turn in June, with a series of events linked to the socio-environmental agenda.
Between June 5th and 29th there will be debates, seminars, exhibitions, public hearings and round tables at the National Congress (the complete agenda is on the website www.virada parliamentarario.org.br).
The event was created by the Democracy and Sustainability Institute (IDS) and the Collaborative Advocacy Network (RAC), in partnership with more than 30 civil society organizations.
“We will be a platform aimed at building bridges between Parliament and society, around a common objective: to change the thinking, outlook and actions of those who make socio-environmental laws in Brazil, since it is in Congress that the key to the climate transition in Brazil’, says Ricardo Young, from IDS.
The initiative comes at a time when the National Congress has taken a series of actions that seek to deflate the environmental agenda of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government, with the removal, for example, of structures that were linked to the Ministry of the Environment.
“The country once again has a voice on the international scene for socio-environmental issues and there is an internal political disposition for the agenda”, says Gláucia Barros, from RAC.
