Moro says that Lula wants to take revenge on the Brazilian people – 03/21/2023 – Politics

Senator, former judge and former Minister of Justice Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) responded to the speeches of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who recalled this Tuesday (21) the period in which he was imprisoned in Curitiba and said that, at the time, he was thinking about revenge.

Lula stated in an interview with the Brasil 247 portal that the methods of Operation Lava Jato (a case that at the time was judged by Moro) led people to report, because they could not withstand the pressure.

“Once in a while a prosecutor would go there on a Saturday, a weekday, to ask if everything was okay. Three or four prosecutors would come in and ask: ‘Is everything okay?’ ‘[Eu respondia:] It is not alright. It’s only going to be okay when I fuck this Moro. You cut out the word ‘fuck’,” the president said in the interview.

Later, in an interview with CNN Brasil, Moro responded. “My interpretation is that the president is taking revenge on the Brazilian population, because the government has not delivered results,” he said.

“The president has already called farmers fascists, said he didn’t trust the military, made an absurd speech about economics books that would have been overcome,” he added.

Moro was the one who determined Lula’s arrest in 2018, when he was positioned as a presidential candidate in that year’s elections, against Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The former judge judged Lava Jato cases until he became Minister of Justice, at Bolsonaro’s invitation. Afterwards, an investigation by The Intercept website revealed messages exchanged between him and the then prosecutor in the case, Deltan Dallagnol, which show that the two exchanged collaboration and shared information about Lula’s case even during the investigations.

Moro left the government split with the then president, but the two got closer during the 2022 campaign and are currently allies.

Lula was arrested in 2018 and spent 580 days in the Federal Police jail in Curitiba.

The current president was moved as he answered questions about his time in prison in Curitiba. He said he felt a lot of heartache and mentioned the losses of his wife Marisa Letícia, who died in 2017, and his brother Genival Inácio da Silva, Vavá, who died in 2019.

“It’s funny that I stayed in that jail there and it was a very rich moment in my life of resistance. How many times did I lie on that bed and lay on my back looking at the ceiling”, said the president, when he started to cry.
