More than 20 para-athletes participate in the 2023 Regional Paralympic School Trials – News of Brazil

As part of the 2023 Amapa School Games disputes, the Government of Amapá carried out the selective for the School Paralympic Regional, which will be played in August, in Belém-PA.
The events, which brought together more than 20 student-athletes aged 11 to 18, were held on the athletics track of the Federal University of Amapá (Unifap), in Macapá.
The selective featured athletics disputes in the categories: running, shot put, javelin and discus. Paralympic athletes from several municipalities participated in the competition, such as Erick Costa, 13 years old, who came from Laranjal do Jari to compete in the Games in the capital.
“It has been a very fun experience. It’s my first time in Macapá, but I’ve already adapted to the pace of the capital. I also had my first dispute in the discus throw. It was a great challenge that I faced to make my mother happy and I believe I did very well”, said the para-athlete.
This is the first time that the Paralympic modality has been included in the Amapaense School Games and is part of the State Government’s inclusion policy. Around 5,000 student-athletes from 128 public and private schools, from 14 municipalities in the state, compete in the competition this year.
“Our parasports is very strong nationally. They recently won 102 medals in Goiânia. But, in order to maintain this level of excellence, we mainly need to foster the base with these school-aged para-athletes. I am sure that more para-athletes will come out of here who will represent our state well in events throughout Brazil”, said the secretary of Sports and Leisure, Rudney Cunha.
Game Selection
The para-athletes with the best times and marks qualified to represent Amapá in the regional stage in Belém, where they will compete for a place in the national stage. The School Games are held jointly by the Education (Seed) and Sports and Leisure (Sedel) departments, this year with the support of the Amapa School Sports Federation (Fade).
