More than 100 children and teenagers participate in the Paralympic Festival in Amapá – News of Brazil

Fun and lots of sport took over the third edition of the Paralympic Festival held this Saturday (20), at the Federal Institute of Amapá’s gymnasium (Ifap). The event, which brought together more than 100 children and adolescents, is promoted by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) in partnership with the Government of Amapá.
The festival presented, in a playful way, some Paralympic sports such as athletics, bocce, parabadminton and sitting volleyball for participants from 8 to 17 years old. For many of them, this was their first contact with Paralympic sport.
“I am already a parathlete. I participate in national competitions in athletics. But it’s good to see new faces here at the festival. Thus, parasports only grows”celebrate Juliane Cristina.
In addition to the children, the event also had the presence of the parathlete from Amapa Wanna Brito, 26 years old, main name in athletics in Amapá. She recently represented Brazil in Morocco, and in March she broke two records in the shot put and club throw, in the 1st phase of the Loterias Caixas de Athletics Circuit, in São Paulo.
“It was great to see these kids excited. I say that here is where the dream begins. It’s in the joke that we discover each other. It’s playing the ball or a dart that we discover ourselves. Who knows from here new para-athletes will be formed to represent our state abroad”highlighted the champion.
The Secretary of State for Sport and Leisure (Sedel) has been encouraging parasports, by holding competitions, festivals and supporting teams in national tournaments. “Our parasport has been growing every year. We are already a power in athletics, and in 2022 we won 3rd place overall in the modality. The Government of Amapá is part of this growth. We are developing not only the sport, but also the social aspect, giving these children opportunities to get to know Brazil and the world”highlighted the secretary of Sports and Leisure, Rudney Cunha.
The Paralympic Festival took place in all Brazilian states. CPB’s expectation was to bring together more than 16,000 children and young people across the country. Of this audience, 80% are made up of people with physical, visual and/or intellectual disabilities, and the other 20% are people without disabilities.
