Moraes votes to make defendant accused of destroying historic clock on 1/8 – 06/23/2023 – Power

The STF (Federal Supreme Court) began judging this Friday (23) another package of complaints against those involved in the coup acts of January 8.

This time, the ministers will decide to become defendants 45 people denounced by the PGR (Attorney General of the Republic), the majority (37) under the accusation of inciting the Armed Forces against the Powers and of criminal association.

Rapporteur of the case, Minister Alexandre de Moraes voted for the opening of criminal actions against supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The analysis is carried out in the court’s virtual plenary, with the insertion of votes in the court’s electronic system. The trial will conclude at 23:59 on Monday (26).

There are also among the accused those who participated in the depredation of the headquarters of the three Powers. One of them is Antônio Cláudio Alves Ferreira, captured by the security cameras of the Palácio do Planalto destroying the historic clock brought to Brazil by Dom João 6º, in 1808.

The cases of Marcelo Fernandes Lima, who allegedly stole a replica of the Constitution, and William Lima, caught in the toga of a STF minister, also appear in the trial.

The PGR attributed to those who participated in the vandalism of public buildings crimes such as the violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, qualified damage and deterioration of listed property.

Another case under analysis by the court is that of legislative police officer Alexandre Bento Hilgenberg, accused of “failure to fulfill his functional duties”.

The Supreme has already made 1,245 defendants. Counting the 45 cases included in the judgment that started this Friday, 145 complaints are still pending analysis.
