When determining the opening of a procedure to investigate Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES), the Minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Alexandre de Moraes withdrew from a determination of a fine for communication vehicles if the interviews were not delivered in full with the parliamentarian.

In a first version of the decision, the minister determined a daily fine of R$ 100,000 if Veja did not send, within five days, the entire content of the senator’s interview audios.

Moraes also ordered Globo and CNN to send in full, within the same period and under penalty of the same fine, any interviews with Do Val.

Minutes later, the minister came back. In addition to withdrawing the fine, he defined that the “already published” interviews with the senator should be sent.

Moraes’ decision was corrected when he determined that Marcos do Val suspected crimes of false testimony, slanderous denunciation and coercion in the course of the process.

On Thursday (2), the senator made a live broadcast on social networks in which he said that Veja magazine would publish a report showing that Bolsonaro tried to coerce him to “take a coup d’état together with him”.

Hours later, Do Val backtracked on the direct accusation and said that Bolsonaro “only heard” the plan of former federal deputy Daniel Silveira and said he would think about it.

Moraes states that Marcos do Val, when heard as a witness by the Federal Police regarding the case, presented “a fourth version of the facts disclosed by him, all antagonistic to each other, so that the pertinence and need for diligence for his complete enlightenment”.
