Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined, on the night of this Wednesday (12), a period of five days for the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to express its opinion on the request for freedom made by the defense of former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres.

Torres’ lawyers asked the Supreme Court, last Monday, that the arrest be replaced by precautionary measures and affirmed to the Supreme Court that Torres poses no risk to investigations.

In the request for release, the defense also mentioned the situation of Anderson Torres’ family. “After the applicant’s precautionary custody was granted, his daughters, unfortunately, began to receive psychological support, with the effect that they were unable to attend school regularly. Added to this is the fact that the applicant’s mother is treating cancer. The postulant, on his turn, while he has not seen his daughters since his preventive detention, entered a state of deep sadness, cries constantly, barely eats and has already lost 12 kilos”, say the lawyers.

The former minister was arrested preventively by the Federal Police on January 14. He is accused of being one of those responsible for the acts of depredation registered in Praça dos Três Poderes and that he would not have taken adequate measures to prevent the invasions, as he was the former security secretary of the Federal District.

A day after the depredations, Torres released a note stating that the invasions were “collective insanity”. The former secretary said he “deeply regrets that absurd hypotheses are raised of any kind of collusion on my part with the barbarities we are witnessing. I am certain that this execrable episode will be fully clarified, and those responsible will be exemplarily punished”.
