Ministry of Health expands dengue vaccination to another 154 municipalities

An additional 154 cities, from 11 Health Regions, will receive doses of the dengue vaccine. The measure was announced this Wednesday (27/03) by the Ministry of Health in a press conference.

The redistribution of doses for the vaccination of children and adolescents aged 10 to 14 begins with the technical note that will be published by the ministry this Wednesday.

The Health Regions are located in six states:

• Espírito Santo (Central)

• Minas Gerais (Betim, Uberaba, Uberlândia/Araguari)

• Pernambuco (Recife)

• Paraná (Apucarana),

• Santa Catarina (Greater Florianópolis)

• São Paulo (Guarani Aquifer, metropolitan regions of Campinas, São José do Rio Preto and Capital)

According to Éder Gatti, director of the National Immunization Program (PNI), the list of Health Regions that will receive the doses was agreed with the representations of states and municipalities.

“We will guarantee the distribution of doses to cover these regions. The idea is to send new doses with an appropriate expiration date to these locations,” said Gatti.

In the first stage, 521 cities from 16 states and the Federal District were selected to receive the doses.

According to the Ministry of Health, 1,235,119 doses have already been distributed. Of these, 534,631 were applied and 700,488 were not registered. According to the ministry, the doses have not yet been administered or the municipality’s record has not yet been sent to the National Health Data Network (RNDS).

Cases

According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health, the country has more than 2.3 million probable and confirmed cases of dengue, with 831 confirmed deaths and 1,267 deaths under investigation.

Currently 10 states (Acre, Amapá, Goiás, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina Paraná), the Federal District and 407 municipalities have emergency decrees due to the disease.
